Synopsis Graffiti: Heroes and Villains (2017)

Max Taylor, Jake Taylor and Danny Jones are sent on a mission by Melrose Hawthorne to locate Graffiti, who has gone missing. They are immediately teleported away and are attacked by three clones of Dylan Johnson, seemingly evil or under come form of mind control. While Danny and Jake are able to hold their own and defeat their clones, Max is almost defeated by his. Danny manages to make it to Max, and despite Jake's objections, electrocutes Dylan to death. This is then revealed to be a training exercise created and monitored by Melrose and instructed by the real Dylan. Following the training session, Max confronts Dylan about training with the younger kids, despite being notably older than them, and suspects that he and Melrose have formed a superhero team, wanting to join. However, Dylan denies this. Josh Boom comes by to inspect the house to make sure that they aren't destroying his home during the training. During their conversation, Dylan laments over losing his powers, choosing to keep this a secret from the kids, and expresses his determination to find Foxworth and bring him down for good, before being teleported away by Josh to his class. A guilt-ridden Melrose, who was telepathically watching the entire exchange, calls NSA member Jonathan Maxwell and the two discuss Maxwell's concerns with the superhuman population. Knowing well that Melrose is incapable of keeping control of every superhumans' actions, Maxwell openly chastises Melrose's defense of superhumans, recalling his young sister's death at the hand of Switchblade 30 years prior. Melrose tries to convince Maxwell that Switchblade's actions don't reflect those of other superhumans, but he abruptly hangs up on her. Elsewhere, a young superhuman named Elsa Devine is attacked by two deployed SWAT soldiers, and is soon backed up by Josh to defend herself. They are victorious, and Josh returns to the base to inform the team's tactician Jerome Briggs of the successful mission, though James openly berates him for his time as a member of Foxworth Enterprises. Meanwhile, Dylan continues training the Junior S.A.I.N.T.s, which quickly turns into a fight between Max and his cousin Chris. While Max is able to hold his own, he is quickly overwhelmed by Chris's brute strength, leading Dylan telling Jake to join in, though Chris overpowers them both. Dylan scolds Chris for his ruthlessness, and after quickly beating him, leaves for an interview with D-Brad to give an update on the SHC's status and accomplishments. However, immediately following this, Melrose and Dylan are informed of a highly-publicized fight between Brandon Williams and Switchblade in Millennium City. Brandon is able to subdue Switchblade, but an enraged Switchblade causes a massive explosion that completely destroys the city, killing over 300,000 of its citizens. Among the killed include Dr. Carter, D-Brad and many others. Elsa is almost killed in the blast as well, but Brandon is able to portal them both away before they are engulfed in the explosion.

Three months later, the city is still in ruins, and only around 500 survivors are found, with a third of the city's population still reported as missing. The event pushes the government to extensively investigate the cause of the explosion, and dispatch more SWAT soldiers, feeling that the event is superhuman related. By order of Maxwell, many of the soldiers are discretely given orders to locate specific superhumans, and Terminate On Sight (T.O.S.). Two soldiers storm Dylan and Melrose's childhood home, where Dylan has been hiding out. While he manages to overpower one soldier, the other soldier is about to shoot him, before Sebastian attacks him. During the scuffle, Dylan is shot, but is rescued by Max and Jake, sent by Josh to extract Dylan and safely bring him to the base. Josh and Jerome monitor the SHC and stand in for Melrose, while she, along with Dylan, Max, Jake and Elsa travel to the city ruins to help find survivors and aid Brandon in evacuating others from the city. During this time, Brandon contacts Josh and warns him that once the world is able to confirm that superhumans were the cause of the event, the world will turn on them. Maxwell also calls in, initially looking for Melrose, and warns Josh that he has acquired security footage of Switchblade and Brandon's fight, and is able to link them to the destruction of Millennium City. He uses this as evidence that Melrose is unqualified to claim responsibility for the entire superhuman world, and holds her personally responsible for the many deaths. He then threatens to personally reach out to the House of Representatives and the President of the United States himself to ensure that they are punished for their crimes. Dylan returns to base and, having found Switchblade's iconic hoodie amongst the rubble, confirms with Josh that he was the cause. Dylan tells Josh that Melrose wants them both to return to Millennium City to aid with the efforts as a message of peace, but Josh simply leaves. Dylan notices that Josh just got done talking with Maxwell, and has Jerome help him intercept one of his upcoming meetings. Meanwhile, Brandon and Elsa are contacted by Maxwell to discuss the explosion. He tries to appeal to them by telling them of his history with the city, but Elsa openly chastises him for claiming to be from the city, and for his stance towards superhumans in general. He reveals to them his personal vendetta towards Switchblade, and asks them if they feel that he should be held accountable for his crimes. While Brandon agrees, Elsa is still doubtful, having been repeatedly attacked by the government SWAT soldiers indirectly deployed by Maxwell, even correctly guessing that Maxwell brought a solder with him to their meeting. He tries to convince them that they should be the ones to bring Switchblade in, as Brandon indirectly is just as responsible for the event, and Elsa lost the city she loved, along with many of her family members. He goes on to revile Melrose, Graffiti, the SHC, and the S.A.I.N.T. Program and what they stand for, pointing out that despite the many chances they had, they refused to kill Switchblade. While still hesitant, the two agree to partner with Maxwell and shake hands, Maxwell claiming that Millennium City will be avenged. Immediately following the meeting, Dylan confronts the two and a fight breaks out, with Brandon wounding Dylan, unintentionally hinting to Maxwell that his powers are gone. He tells Dylan that he plans to finish what Foxworth started before leaving. Melrose telepathically finds Dylan and uses Josh to teleport him back to base. She heals his injuries, but angrily scolds him for attempting to go after Maxwell without his powers and potentially ruining her plan to learn as much as she can about his intentions. Josh begins to feel guilty about sparing Switchblade's life, and blames themselves for not killing him before he killed the people of Millennium City, reflecting on his brother's death and the deaths of the other superhumans that Switchblade forced him to help him kill. Unable to be dissuaded, he leaves the base, determined to kill Switchblade and redeem himself and avenge all of the fallen victims, despite it being against Melrose's orders. Melrose and Jerome meet with The Assistant, Gerald Meyers and Evangeline Carter, along with Max, Jake, Chris and another Informant for the weekly update on SWAT activity, and warns them to find Switchblade before the government does. Dylan tells Melrose that Josh left to go after Switchblade for revenge, and with the loss of Josh. Jerome speculates that it may be time to consider their "last resort".

Josh returns to Evangeline's house in Roseville to ask for her help in tracking down Switchblade, and a fight breaks out between the two, resulting in Josh losing to her for a second time. Evangeline reveals to Josh that she also believes that Switchblade deserves to die for his actions, but that the only way that he would be able to is to use something superhuman to kill him. She tells Josh to simply bring Switchblade to her, and she'll use her "Tiger's Claw" ability to rip out his heart. Back at the house, Dylan questions to Melrose whether Josh killing Switchblade would be justified, to which Melrose denies, pointing out that him killing Switchblade only makes him a bigger threat in the eyes of the world. While Jerome puts a force field around the base, Jerome reveals that he secretly studied superhumans at his college and speculated whether it would be possible to acquire superhuman powers. Through this, he discovered that superhuman abilities come from a latent form of energy that runs concurrently through blood, and that when it mixes with about 7% of the blood, the abilities begin to manifest seemingly at random. Melrose and Jerome theorize that because energy itself never dies, Dylan's body should retain enough superhuman energy for more to be added to him, and the combination of Melrose's telepathy and telekinesis would be a reliable transport method to carry out the process, though Jerome is unaware of the risks of such a procedure. Jerome and Melrose begin the process, and while it seems to be working, they are immediately hacked and confronted by Maxwell, who informs them that he has convinced the House of Representatives that superhumans should be treated as threats to the Human population, and they have given him permission to personally dispatch SWAT soldiers to wherever he feels most necessary. Jerome immediately notices the SWAT soldiers arrive, disabling his force field and storming the base. Maxwell goes on to reveal to them that he deployed soldiers practically everywhere in the United States, doubling the numbers in the most highly populated superhuman areas. Understanding that war is imminent, Melrose and Jerome continue the process, but are only able to move about half of the desired energy to Dylan before a SWAT soldier makes it into the house. Melrose is able to project a telepathic field to hold the soldier, and Jerome quickly shoots him. Before the rest of the SWAT invade the house, and the other areas, Melrose sends out a mass telepathic message to all of the superhumans in the world to protect themselves from the oncoming SWAT. The SWAT are seen raiding Switchblade's old abandoned middle school, running in residential homes, and outright in mid-attack with other superhumans. Josh and Evangeline hold off SWAT at Evangeline's home, while Max and Jake defend themselves against a soldier at a local park. Gerald easily defeats other soldiers, even disarming one soldier before snapping his neck. Elsewhere, Ice makes many clones and they defend off the SWAT while he escapes with his family, though the death of his clones saddens them all. The Assistant is also attacked by SWAT, but through the use of both his power and his knowledge of firearms, he emerges practically unscathed. Chris uses his heliokinesis to create a gravity field that holds the SWAT soldiers that attacked him to the floor, while Danny protects his mother and sisters from SWAT soldiers. Brandon and Elsa find themselves also under attack and come to the conclusion that Maxwell betrayed them. In the midst of the fighting, Switchblade suddenly appears and begins effortlessly slaughtering soldiers. Brandon and Elsa try to defend themselves against the SWAT and bring down Switchblade, but he manages to escape amidst the commotion. Back at the base, Jerome warns Dylan that Melrose is using too much of her energy, and despite not having powers or being a target of the SWAT, decides to back her up in the war. Melrose and Jerome begin to hold off many of the soldiers, Jerome even taking a vest and one of their guns to aid. Dylan takes a leap of faith into battle and immediately discovers that he has regained his teleportation abilities. The three are able to fend off waves of superhumans, through Jerome's knowledge of firearms and martial arts, Melrose's telekinesis and telepathy combined with her acrobatics and combat skills, and Dylan's unconventional fighting style and unpredictable use of teleportation. However, when more SWAT begin to arrive from the front of the base, Dylan and Melrose teleport to fend them off, leaving Jerome to fight off SWAT by himself. He is fatally shot by a SWAT soldier, but is able to kill him and save Dylan from getting shot before dying. Dylan asks Melrose to heal him in the same way she healed him earlier, but she is unable to sense his consciousness, concluding that he has indeed passed away. Melrose then reluctantly returns his body to his mother who, while devastated by loss of her son, is thankful to Melrose for everything that she's done for him.

Brandon contacts Melrose and informs her that he successfully fought and fended off the SWAT soldiers, and had an encounter with Switchblade, though he escaped. Melrose instructs Brandon to send her a portal to her, and for Dylan to find Switchblade, who assumes he returned to his old school building. As soon as he gets off the phone with Melrose, Brandon is approached by Josh and, using what Evangeline told him about how to kill Switchblade, has Brandon infuse his sword with enough energy to kill the seemingly overpowered superhuman. Before leaving, Brandon instructs Josh to "stab him in the heart", while Josh promises to "bring back his head". Brandon then leaves and joins Melrose, Evangeline, Gerald, Max, Jake, Chris, Danny, and many other superhumans to protect the superhumans still being attacked by the SWAT soldiers. Dylan teleports to Switchblade's old abandoned school and walks past all of the bodies of the dead soldiers scattered throughout the hallways. He eventually makes it to the auditorium and confronts Switchblade, now donning a new, red suit to replace the hoodie and shirt that was destroyed. Dylan tries to convince Switchblade to come with him to be protected from the soldiers, not knowing that Dylan and Melrose plan on giving him over to the authorities as leverage to call off the SWAT attacks. Switchblade refuses, resulting in a fight that spans across different cities and, at one point, a different country. Ending up on bridge, Dylan and Switchblade's fight comes to a stop, and Josh approaches Switchblade with his sword drawn. Immediately, a three-way fight commences between the three, with Dylan trying to protect Switchblade from Josh, Josh trying to kill Switchblade and fend off Dylan, and Switchblade trying to kill both Dylan and Josh. The fight eventually makes it back to the base, where Josh is able to incapacitate Dylan and practically beat Switchblade into submission, which alerts Melrose. He then pulls out his sword and upgrades it to the sword Brandon modified, and prepares to fatally stab and kill Switchblade once and for all. However, determined not to let Josh be deemed the new "Switchblade", Dylan teleports in between them, and is unfortunately stabbed through the chest. Falling to the ground, practically lifeless, Melrose, Josh and Switchblade look on, as Dylan's heartbeat is faintly heard. Understanding that he is barely alive, Melrose uses what's left of her energy to heal Dylan's injuries, practically bringing him back to life. Josh claims to not be done trying to kill Switchblade, but finally fed up with Switchblade, Melrose grabs him and shatters his mind, practically making him inert, and absorbs his superhuman energy, effectively depowering him. He desperately tries to land a punch on Melrose, but is quickly knocked out by Dylan.

Another three months later, Dylan and Josh meet up with Melrose, who informs them that Switchblade was given multiple life sentences with no possibilities of parole, and has been sent to Iron Valley Penitentiary to live out the rest of his days. However, Maxwell is removed from his position on the National Security Agency due to his actions, but avoids prison as he was granted permission to do so by the House of Representatives. Melrose reveals that the event now known as the "Great Superhuman Massacre" resulted in the deaths of almost 95% of the superhuman population, leaving only about 1,000 left in the world. A majority of the superhumans agree to relocate to rebuild Millennium City with Brandon and Elsa spearheading the project to create "New Millennium City" as a safe haven for superhumans. Josh decides to stay in Detroit instead of return to Millennium City, and Melrose decides to disband the S.A.I.N.T. program and Junior S.A.I.N.T. Program to move superhumans slowly back into secrecy. Hopeful for the future, Dylan, Melrose and Josh decide to protect the few superhumans that remain as the protectors, motivators, and heroes of the new Superhuman Community.
